ZM_Citylife Development

A word about this map:

After playing a lot of "Zombie Mod" games on Counter Strike Source servers during the years 2007-2010; I was certain i had to make a Zombie map myself!
With a little knowledge of the Hammer editor and a good idea in my head, i started drawing my map on paper and the next moment i was creating it in the editor!

The idea was a large city for 64 players with a lot of hiding spot's and secrets. Later i figured that was not the best idea, but it was fun to create all this.
The development name, thus not the final name was "ZM_Hometown". Just because we have to name our projects to something before we give it the final name.

The map that i created after weeks of mapping became so big that it wasnt so good after all, mainly because it was too big, and too laggy. So i edited it more and more to the final version which is about 50% smaller.
Any idea i could think of was put in this map at that time.
Enjoy ZM_Citylife

  1. This map is so important to me. People talk about having songs that take them back to a time in their life, this map is that to me and my late teens. I was ill and housebound and would spend almost all of my time playing zombie mod and this was my favourite map, I must have played over 300 hours on it. I just loved how big and bright it was. I loved how hard some of the secrets were to find, I ended up decompiling it and messing around in the editor to find them all. I'd hang out on the floating glass platform which I think I was one of the like 4 people who played zm who knew out how to get up there.

Thank you so much for making it, and all the other maps you made too. I think you were easily one of the best mappers for zm and they all stick out to me in my memory. It's weird that you posted this today, I was just talking to a friend about it and decided to look you up. I don't know if you ever went into professional game development or whatever but I want you to know how much this thing you made means to me. It was a space I was happy in at a time where I was very sad. I think about it a lot and it's still very vivid in my memory, I probably will carry on thinking about it for the rest of my life.

    1. Hi, thank you for this amazing post... I was not thinking somebody would remember this map like that. I am just updating this blog for people to see and remember these maps, and also pictures that nobody seen before. Want to share the stuff i have left with people like you!
The reason you thought about this map again and the same time i made this page must mean something!
Thank you for the countless play houres on ZM, We all miss these times, it was always fun to play there! And we all miss it, that's for sure!
